As a child if Twitter had been present maybe I could have parlayed the things my Dad said into a poorly rated and reviewed sitcom.
Now as a father myself I hear my dad’s voice as I channel these words of wisdom.
1. Can I make a suggestion? Although this is a question it is never asked as a question. Instead it is a statement that prefaces the exact instructions to be taken next.
2. While you are up. Turns out that I was never indeed “up.” Most times I was comfortably seated.
3. Don’t let the door slam. We had several homes that were cursed with screen doors that would slam close. Now as I stare at my own long honey-do list I wonder why fixing the door so it wouldn’t slam was never on the list.
4. Don’t stand with the refrigerator door open. Lots of fatherly wisdom has to do with doors!
Two years ago I wrote about some of my dad’s best advice in this Father’s Day memory.
