After I pointed out a student driver sedan to my then four year old son I told him in “12 years you will learn how to drive.”
He replied, “I already know how to drive.”
“Oh yeah? What do you know?”
He confidently replied, “I turn the steering wheel and push those buttons for the radio.”
At age four he had already spent hundreds of hours watching us drive from his back seat car seat and undoubtedly had witnessed many of our distracted driving behaviors. That was the day I resolved to never again use my cellphone while I was driving with kids in the car and my current phone use is rare and limited to rural four lane highway operations.

My son’s all-time favorite movie is Cars. Next week is the release of Cars 2. I am excited to go with him to see Lightning, Mater, and the other Cars on a new adventure. Disney and Pixar, in partnership with the DOT, have released this PSA about Distracted Driving. Stay safe!
