Are you Running? Join me for National Running Day

National Running Day LogoRunning is one of my passions. I run:

  • for the health benefits
  • to eat a lot of things that are calorie rich (like ice cream)
  • because it clears my mind and gives me time to think
  • to compete against myself and others

Today, June 3, is the first National Running Day.

Follow these Everyday EMS Tips to start running:
1. Talk to your doctor if you are not currently exercising regularly.
2. Make sure you have a good pair of shoes that are designed for running.
3. Start slow and easy, for example walk 5 minutes, run 1 minute. Alternate running and walking while you build endurance.
4. Pick a fun community race that is 12 to 20 weeks away to train towards.
5. Talk to friends that run and get their advice.
6. Find a running buddy.
7. Learn more about running from running websites, books, and magazines.

Start slow. Don’t get discouraged. It might take you a few months before you start to see new muscles definition and pounds drop. Don’t quit.

Finally, as my paramedic friend Emily is fond of saying, “Run if you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must…….just never give up!”
