What abbreviations are approved for EMTs?

A reader asked, “What abbreviations are approved for EMTs?”

1. Check to see if your organization has a list of approved abbreviations. If your organization doesn’t have a list of approved abbreviations now is a good time to start. An approved list helps documentation consistency and avoiding errors in patient care reports.

2. Look-up medical abbreviations. This website claims to have 20,000 medical abbreviations.

3. Google. When I need to quickly find out what an abbreviation or acronym means I turn to Google. Or as I like to say WDGS = what does Google say.

Does your school or agency have an approved list of abbreviations posted online? Share the link in the comments.
