Posts Outside the Service Area: Expo, EMS Blogs.com, and Is this an Emergency

Summer is zipping away, faster than I realized. As daylight grows shorter I find myself catching up on my blog reading and writing posts here and other places.

Robert G. Nixon EMS Scholarship Award Winner

Congratulations to @JustMyBlog, winner of one of the 2010 Robert G. Nixon scholarships. She will be traveling to EMS Expo from her home in Alberta. Read her post on the humbling experience of winning this scholarship. She proves that you can’t win if you don’t apply. I am looking forward to meeting her and many other EMS professionals at the 2010 EMS Expo.

EMSBlogs.com – a New Blog Network

A new blog network has launched featuring some of the finest EMS Blogs available. My friends David Konig, Jim Hoffman, and Tim Noonan have already moved their blogs to EMSBlogs.com. The Medical Author Chat will soon be moving there as well.

Is this an Emergency?

Steve Whitehead really gets to the heart of the matter in his post Patient’s Define Their Emergencies (Part 2). Steve asks us to challenge him, but I am totally on board with his views on the futility of second guessing, lecturing, or ignoring patients when they define what is an emergency. The patient is not likely to change and endless griping in the apparatus bay is not talking to the people who can actually help us solve the problem. Go read Steve’s excellent post.

Online Training and More from CentreLearn.com

Part of my role as Director of Education for CentreLearn Solutions is to write content for the CentreLearn Community Blog. In late July I spent a day at the Firehouse Expo in Baltimore. Read this post about my visit to Firehouse Expo, including a guest appearance on the FirefighterNetcast Podcast.

What were some of your favorite posts in and out of the service area during August?
