Autism EMS Websites and Resources

I recently read that 1 in 150 children have some form of an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Information and training on Autism specific to EMS providers is limited. Check out these three websites to learn more about Autism and assessment of autistic patients.

I recently found AutismEMS.net – a website with information about ASDs specific to EMS.

The Autism Society of America (ASA) has created a reference guide: Information for Paramedics and Emergency Room Staff that contains a lot of useful information. Download the EMS tips guide from the ASA website.

Another great resource on assessing and treating Autistic patients in Episode 71 of the MedicCast. Jamie Davis, the podmedic, describes autism, signs of autism, and assessment tips for autism patients. Check it out for a quick description and understanding.

Another resource for emergency responders is the book Dangerous Encounters–Avoiding Perilous Situations with Autism.
