Declaration of Independence

On this day, July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence drafted by Thomas Jefferson. Today’s holiday commemorates a watershed historical moment. In addition to enjoying spending time with friends and family during the holiday take a few moments to:

1. Thank the emergency responders working on this holiday. Their ongoing efforts are essential to a free society.

2. Read the Declaration of Independence transcript.

3. Be a student of history. Visit the National Archives to read and learn about other historical documents.
