January 2014 Media: 3 Lists of 3

Between illness and two rounds of the polar vortex I spent a lot of time indoors during January. I even had to take a sick day (aka personal day) because I was actually sick! With all that time indoors I cranked through a lot of “media.”

3 Books

[amazon-product text=”The Widow File” type=”text”]B00C1LUR0O[/amazon-product] – I downloaded this book through the free monthly Kindle download Amazon gives to Kindle owners and Prime Subscribers. An OK thriller.

[amazon-product text=”Let Me Off at the Top:” type=”text”]B00EIGS388[/amazon-product] My Classy Life and Other Musings – is the faux auto-biography by Ron Burgandy. Occasionally ssssttt, ssssttt, ssssttt funny and with a few chortles this book mostly became a feat of endurance to see if I could finish it. I probably should have gone to the movie.

[amazon-product text=”Paddle Your Own Canoe” type=”text”]052595421X[/amazon-product] – auto-biography and musings on life by Nick Offerman who you probably know as Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec. A reasonably well-told story that has me terrified at the thought of either of my children choosing a career in theater.

3 Movies

Shrek: the Musical is available for streaming from Netflix. This show is FANTASTIC. We loved it and will watch it again. And maybe again.

Star Wars Episode III. Both of my kids have now watched all 6 of the Star Wars movie and they watched them IV, V, VI, I, II, III. The ending of episode III is at the outer limits of what I let my young children watch. In a way that is both troubling and comforting they both attest that their favorite characters are the Ewoks and Jar Jar Binks.

Some dumb thriller with a former LA Law actor (I think) set in some country in Europe.

3 Television Series

Netflix is also streaming Maron, the IFC sitcom by and about Marc Maron. You may know him as the host of the WTF podcast. The 10 episodes of season 1 are fantastic. (We are now streaming Netflix with a Chromecast. I love finding a movie or show on my phone and then sending it magically to the television)

How I Met Your Mother. Over the last 12 months we have binged watched our way through 9 seasons of HIMYM and are caught up with live episodes. I shudder at the thought of doing the match 22 minutes per episode times # of episodes = I could have been doing something better with my life. Let’s just have the dam wedding and get this over with.

Top Chef. We DVR’d the New Orleans season and are just now starting to watch. I like the feel of traveling back in time and watching holiday commercials from November in February.
