Just read a great post at the MedicCast on study tips for EMT students. Jamie recommends creating a set of flash cards about concepts and a second set of flash cards about different patient types.
Here are a few more Everyday EMS Tips for studying:
1. Form a study group. Ask each member to make 20 flash cards and trade flash cards with the members of your study group.
2. After reading a textbook chapter write down the most important concepts, terms, and principles from the chapter. Like Jamie says in his post the simple act of writing something down is a study tip.
3. Skim a chapter before you start reading it. Just read the headings, bold terms, and sidebars. Usually these are the most important items.
4. Make sure your study area is relatively quiet and distractions are minimized. Turn off your phone, email, and IM.
5. Find music that will help drone out distractions and help keep you focused. When I really need to focus I turn on a classical music channel at Pandora.com.
