What do you Want to Know More About

A few weeks ago I asked a group of medical first responders, EMTs, and paramedics what they wanted to know more about during introductions for a training session. There responses:

  1. Trauma
  2. Medications
  3. Recruitment
  4. “Fragile” patients
  5. Heart Failure
  6. Pharmacology and medications
  7. Pediatrics and Cardiology
  8. Trauma
  9. Pediatrics and Critical Care
  10. Administration and Cardiac Arrest

After asking this question I was able to guide some of our conversation and discussion to these topics. Also if I hear someone say their name, position, and something unique to them (what they want to know more about in this case) I can almost always remember their name. Other unique to them questions I have used:

  • What gives you the heebee jeebies
  • Last book you read
  • Worst injury you ever saw
  • Biggest fear or worry as an EMS provider
  • Where would they go if they could go anywhere

What questions do you ask your students?
