Column Idea: Everyday EMS Athletes

Fitness for EMS professionals is one of my passions. I regularly encourage other EMS professionals at every opportunity I can to maintain good health and wellness for their jobs as tactical athletes. I really admire EMS professionals that are able to balance an EMS work schedule with the training demands of a marathon, triathlon or century bike ride. Even more admirable are those that can change their life routine to train and complete their first 5k or 10k.

Everyday EMS Athletes in Action
Recently, my friends and paramedics, Samantha ran – a half marathon – and Emily ran a full marathon. Earlier this summer Emily finished a half IronMan. She is registered for the 2011 Wisconsin IronMan. Together they have helped start a workplace fitness club. Amazing.

This is a great story from MCFRS Firefighter/Paramedic that competed in the Can-Am Police and Fire Games. FF/EMT-P Stottlemyer not only balanced work and training, but also managed to raise more than $10,000 to compete (equipment, travel, race fees … it adds up fast).

Columnist Wanted
I am looking for a columnist to write a regular feature for EverydayEMSTips.com called Everyday EMS Athletes. The column would profile an EMS professional and their athletic accomplishments. It would also share the athlete’s training tips and encouragement for other EMS professionals. Email greg at everydayemstips dot com to get started.

Maybe you think this is a great idea, but would rather do it on your own blog. That’s fine with me. Keep me posted so I can link to the athlete profiles.
