Blood Loss – When is it Important and Urgent

Last week I asked, “When is abdominal pain Important and Urgent?” Let’s try this again with a different problem – blood loss.

An elderly male has the urge to have a bowel movement. When he stands up from the commode he notices there is blood mixed in with his stool. He flushes and in passing mentions it to his wife. She immediately becomes very concerned and calls their daughter who insists they should call 911.

When is passing blood Important and Urgent?
